bio

Matt Wilde is a Manchester-based artist, producer, and pianist whose music lives at the intersection of electronic beat making and jazz improvisation. His upcoming album, released via his own imprint Hello World Records and distributed by London-based Kudos Records, pushes the boundaries of future jazz—a genre defined by analog textures, intricate drum programming, and the raw spontaneity of live improvisation.

Wilde’s sound is shaped as much by J Dilla, MF Doom, and early UK garage as it is by jazz harmony and crate-digging discoveries like Bill Evans. Originally a beatmaker in Manchester’s grime and electronic bass scene, Wilde taught himself piano to create the sounds he wanted to sample. He practiced daily on a keyboard he saved up for, eventually restoring a vintage Rhodes piano by hand—an instrument that now anchors much of his work.

Growing up without access to formal music lessons, Wilde found his way into music through community programs at Band on the Wall, a beloved Manchester venue where he first learned to compose, write, and perform. He released his debut album Hello World through a collaboration with Band on the Wall and London indie label DeepMatter, and has since performed at major UK jazz festivals and at institutions like Camden’s Jazz Cafe.

Though Wilde is deeply rooted in UK jazz, he’s forged a unique path—eschewing traditional collaborations in favor of a more self-directed, experimental process. His music embraces the rawness of live improvisation while remaining beat-forward and heavily textured, built around drum machines, looped melodic fragments, and a fearless sense of rhythm.

His latest work explores everything from UK garage-inflected drum programming to jazz time signatures and minimalist two-chord vamps. It’s music that doesn’t try to be anything—it simply is. As Wilde puts it, “It’s okay, feel it.”

With a growing audience of music producers, crate diggers, and genre-blurring fans, Wilde is setting the stage for a global conversation about what jazz can be when tradition meets innovation.
